Oman kylän Nordin nousi julkisuuteen Killer-yhtyeen laulajana, jonka jälkee hän on julkaissut musiikkia omalla nimellään.
Leinonen tulkitsee pop-, blues- ja rock-tyyppisiä kappaleita. Hän on ollut Balls-yhtyeen solisti vuodesta 1989. Marjo Leinonen on tituleerattu Suomen Janis Jopliniksi.
